Competition Venue: Lima , Peru
Five years into my career change and entrepreneurship, I had the honor of participating in a milestone event —Junior World Championship, a true Major Game. Coach Miya, and I were fortunate to accompany six young athletes from the Canadian national team as their coaching staff to this shooting competition. Over 500 athletes from around the world competed in this event. We entered the competition with a learning attitude, knowing that our skills were still far from being at the level where we could compete for medals in such a high-level tournament. So, we remained relaxed and focused on learning.
Over the course of the competition, we learned a great deal and made many new friends. During the event, I had the opportunity to learn from Coach Bai, Coach Fang, and Coach Lu from the Chinese team. I also witnessed the thrilling moment when Wang Zifei broke the youth world record and earned the first gold medal. I even got signatures from Huang Liwanlin and Wang Zifei, and took a photo with Wang Zifei.
I had the pleasure of meeting the mentor from the ISSF ACADEMY who had taught our coaching license course and took a photo with her as well. Little Rex also received guidance from Coach Fang and was overjoyed. Whenever he talks about the changes in his movements, he proudly mentions that it was Coach Fang from China who helped him. Rex even asked me to thank Coach Fang and send his regards. What a kind and loyal kid he is.
The kids experienced a big event and broadened their horizons. I hope that in the future, they will have the opportunity to stand on the podium themselves.
